Bryant
Chapin, 1859-1927. Signed "Bryant
Chapin 11" lower left, oil on
canvas. Condition is excellent. Canvas size 10"x14". Born in Fall River
in
1859, Chapin spent most of his life there. He was a member and teacher
of
the Fall River School, and a pupil of the schools founder, Robert S.
Dunning.
This painting is characteristic of Chapins, and the Fall River
School's,
later still-life style (after 1890) showing a group of fruit (in this
case
plums) in a natural out-of-doors setting. Chapin painted primarily in
oil
and although he did paint coastal scenes and landscapes, he is best
known
for his still-life paintings. |
