F. Usher DeVoll,
1873-1941. Oil on Board, 11" x 171/2". DeVoll was a graduate of the Rhode Island School of
Design
and Studied with Laurens in Paris. He also studied with Mowbray, Henri,
and
Chase. He exhibited at the National Academy, Pennsylvania Academy and
Chicago Art Institute. His specialty was landscape painting. He was a
member of the

A wonderful history of the Providence, Rhode Island street which now houses the Providence Art Club and Providence Watercolor
Club. Apendix B is a 'must-have' for any collector of Rhode Island art.
Only 1000 copies were printed. Two copies
are available.
The one shown is in good condition with some wear on the cover and
spine, tight clean pages, a Potter family geneology on the inside of
the first blank page, and is signed by the author. The price for this

signed lr "F.C.Mathewson". Born in Barrington, RI, Mathewson was a
student
of F.S.Batcheller in Providence, of the Lowell School in Boston, of the
Academie Julian, with Laurens in Paris, and of the Ecole Nationale des
Arts Decoratifs, in Paris. He traveled to Italy where he did a number
of landscapes, and spent
some time studying in Munich, where he shared an apartment with Mr. and
Mrs.
Stacy Tolman. He had studios at Providence and South County, RI, and
painted
occasionally in Ogunquet, ME. He was a founding member of the South
County
Art Association, a member of the Societe Internationale
d’Aquarellistes, the
Salmagundi Club, the American Watercolor Society, and the NY
Watercolor

Horace Robbins Burdick,
1844-1942. Watercolor, 41/4"
x 63/4", framed. Burdick began his art career in
Providence in 1863, at the age of
19, where he worked retouching and coloring photographs, and moved to
Boston
in 1864. He studied at The Lowell Institute in Boston, and the Museum
School
of Fine Arts, Boston. He studied with Hollingworth and William Rimmer. SOLD |
